Jul 26, 2019
The CFS Foundation approved $10,000 in grant funds to be distributed to 15 backpack food programs within their service and trade area. In addition, the CFS funds are being matched by the Land O’Lakes Foundation, bringing the total contribution to $20,000. The purpose of the grant money is to help children with food insecurities.
“Giving back to our Communities is one of our five cooperative principals,” said CEO, Merlyn Kruger. “Contributions such as this are an investment in the future of our rural communities.”
Each program advisor was asked to fill out an application sharing with us how the funds are used and how many families the serve and how our donation would benefit their program.
These programs provide hunger relief when access to food may not otherwise be possible and collectively, they serve over 900 students each week at 21 public schools in 5 school districts.
“Backpack programs play an important role in helping students with food insecurities. Programs like this allow us to help feed children close to home.”
CFS employees, Sue Bay, Marci Taylor and Brenda Altman were on-hand to present Feed Our Community Partners with a check for $1,500 and matching funds from Land O’Lakes Foundation of $1,500 for a total of $3,000.
